What Is Resin Bound? - The Ultimate In Decorative Surfacing.
Resin Bound is the process of mixing resin and aggregates together in a forced action mixer and then laid to a smooth trowelled finish. It can also be referred to as a stone carpet as it can be a seamless finish, providing a decorative surface that is hardwearing and permeable.
Resin Bound aggregates or gravels are the most fantastic way of creating a smooth surface of natural stones in plain or mixed colours of varying textures.
The Resin Bound System can be overlaid to existing or new concrete or tarmac to create beautiful drives, paths, carparks or any light traffic surface, for a finish that is unrivalled and trowelled to a smooth finish 18mm thick, depending on the application and traffic.
By mixing together different bags of aggregates or adding in small bags of highly contrasting aggregates, you can create hundreds of colour options and different effects from our range.
By using the smaller sizes of aggregates i.e the 1-3mm, you can fill the voids between the stones in the 2-5mm range to enhance the strength or improve the visual appearance.
The Resin Bound System is permeable, so it can meet the Suds compliant regulations if put on the correct sub base. This means the drainage water can permeate through the surafce and helps reduce the risk of flooding in large areas.
The use of dried aggregates bound or bonded in resin appeared on the UK market around 25 years ago and was originally pioneered in the US market. The advances made in epoxy and polymer resins have led to advanced systems that cater for all types of commercial and domestic applications.
The subtle colour shades available, give a great alternative to paving, tarmac or concrete finishes and can be selected to blend in fully with the surrounding area. The market for this type of finish increases year on year as specifier's for new build and restoration work acknowledge the extra choices that are now available to them.
The resin binds with the original surface effectively gluing the new surface finish in place. The Resin Bound surface is relatively low maintenance and if applied correctly, resistant to weeds. The better quality resin systems are also resistant to petrol or oil spills and will not fade or discolour as they are UV resistant.
The applications for resin bound aggregates are endless and in the past the products have been used for flooring, footpaths, driveways and patios as well as commercial applications such as car parks, cycle and foot paths as well as bus lanes and markings for road junctions. The use of different colours of aggregates and resins can create any type of pattern required.
